CAPT Marvin Scott, USN

Captain Scott is from Houghton, Michigan and is a 2000 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics.  After earning his commission through CMU’s Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program, he completed training at the Naval Diving and Salvage Center in Panama City Beach, Florida and was designated a Navy Scuba Diver in July of 2000.  After earning his “Wings of Gold” in May of 2003, he reported to the VF-101 “Grim Reapers” for initial F-14B Tomcat training at NAS Oceana, Virginia.

In May of 2004, Captain Scott joined the “Jolly Rogers” of VF-103 where he completed their last Tomcat deployment onboard the USS JOHN F. KENNEDY in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.  After transitioning to the F/A-18F Super Hornet, he completed another deployment with the now re-designated VFA-103 on the USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.

Captain Scott was selected to attend the prestigious Navy Fighter Weapons School and, upon graduation in September of 2007, stayed on as a TOPGUN Instructor at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at NAS Fallon, Nevada.  While there, he flew all variants of the F/A-18 as well as the F-16A/B Fighting Falcon and served as the AIM-120 Subject Matter Expert and TOPGUN Training Officer.

In August of 2010, Captain Scott reported for his Department Head tour with the VFA-31 “Tomcatters” at NAS Oceana.  Flying F/A-18E aircraft, he completed another deployment in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and NEW DAWN on the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH.  In November of 2013, he reported to the Naval Special Warfare Development Group.  While serving as the Deputy Fleet Liaison Officer, he deployed with a Joint Task Force in support of an Overseas Contingency Operation.

He reported to the VFA-83 “Rampagers” as Executive Officer in February of 2016 onboard the USS HARRY S. TRUMAN.  There he completed the final six months of a combat deployment in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE over Iraq and Syria.  He assumed command of VFA-83 in May of 2017 and led the squadron through a transition from the F/A-18C Hornet to the F/A-18E Super Hornet.

In September of 2018 he reported to the Secretary of the Navy Tours With Industry program as a Fellow at General Electric Aviation where he worked as a digital product manager.  In August of 2019 he reported to the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment in the Pentagon as the Tactical Aircraft Acquisition Portfolio Manager. 

He reported to Carrier Air Wing THREE (CVW-3) as Deputy Commander in June of 2022 prior to beginning Basic Phase, preparing CVW-3 for a 9-month combat deployment onboard USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER beginning in October of 2023.  He assumed command in December of 2023, and CVW-3 would go on to precisely and, when required, violently support Operations INHERENT RESOLVE, YUKON LIGHTNING, POSEIDON ARCHER, and PROSPERITY GUARDIAN.

Captain Scott has accumulated over 3,700 total flight hours, 850 combat flight hours, and 890 arrested landings in naval aircraft during his career.  He is proud to be supported by his wife, Beth Ann, and their three children, Zoey, Bodhi, and Myles.
