The long history of laser ignition development appeared to be coming to a close at the conclusion of 2023. Much has been learned about the technology as it applies to military applications, but laser ignition has yet to find a home in fielded munitions. Despite that fact, laser ignition technology may be getting renewed attention as a solution to current problems with old and new primer technology used in munitions and CAD/PAD devices. This paper will explore the problems with such devices and how laser ignition is being explored to solve them.
